Specialties

I have expertise in a multitude of early childhood behavioural concern specialising in

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is characterised by a wide range or "spectrum" of symptoms, traits, and challenges that can vary greatly among individuals.

Each child with Autism experiences these traits in different combinations and to varying degrees of frequency and severity. A 'One Size Fits All' approach is ineffective as the support needs are unique to each child. What works for one child with Autism may not work for another.

To set your child up for success, support must be personalised to leverage their strengths, interests, and preferences, and customised to target their individual needs.

I will guide you through building your knowledge on how to identify your child’s needs and teach you how to implement research-proven strategies designed to target these needs.

Together, we will build a bright future for your child to thrive.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

As someone who lives with ADHD, it is naturally an area I have great passion for.

I will share my extensive knowledge on identifying the unmet needs behind the behaviours of concern, as well as effective strategies tailored to meet those needs to help your child feel regulated. This will enable your child to tap into the extraordinary superpowers that are unique to people with ADHD.

Delayed Social Skills Development

Children with limited social skills often display behaviours of concern. They often find it challenging to make friends as they struggle to initiate conversations, interpret social cues, and respond appropriately. This makes it hard for them to form connections with other children and they ultimately get left out.

I will help you support the development of your child’s social skills by sharing insights into how children develop socially to help you identify the particular social skills your child is struggling with. From there, I will support you in implementing strategies that will help improve your child’s social skills and reduce the behaviours of concern.

Delayed Language and Communication Skills Development

Without clear communication, it can be a struggle to understand your child's wants and needs, which frequently leads to frustration and behaviours of concern.

Limited communication skills impact children's ability to interact with their peers, leading to social isolation and difficulties forming friendships.

I will support you in extending your knowledge on how to effectively aid the development of your child's language and communication skills, leaving you with a sense of empowerment and assuredness.

As we work together, your child will become confident in their ability to express their thoughts and emotions as a result of the improvement of their language and communication skills.

Anxiety

Identifying and supporting children experiencing anxiety can be extremely challenging due to their limited ability to express their emotions.

I will help you build your knowledge about typical signs of anxiety in young children. This might include behaviours such as excessive worrying, clinginess, irritability, trouble sleeping, or physical complaints like stomachaches or headaches.

I will support you in developing and refining the skills needed to implement strategies that will help your child regulate their emotions and calm their anxiety.

Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)

I will help you identify if the root cause of the behaviours of concern stems from sensory processing challenges, and where appropriate help guide you on how to implement strategies that target the unmet sensory need.

Where necessary, I can help you gain a referral to relevant allied health professionals to obtain a sensory profile evaluation.

If your child is already accessing support from allied health professionals, I can help you implement the recommended strategies to help your child achieve the best possible outcomes.

Routines And Transitions

Children thrive when they know what is coming next.

So many behaviours of concern stem from children sensing a lack of predictability and structure due to the absence of routines.

I will assist you in developing and implementing routines that are tailored to fit your family's unique dynamics and that seamlessly integrate with your lifestyle to bring calm and enjoyment back into your life.

Early Childhood Trauma

Children who have experienced early childhood trauma often display behaviours of concern such as aggression, defiance, impulsivity, or withdrawal. This can be hard for parents and caregivers to understand and navigate.

Often these behaviours are misinterpreted as deliberate defiance or "naughtiness," due to a lack of understanding that these behaviours are communicating that the child is struggling to cope with overwhelming emotions or memories associated with their traumatic experiences.

will help you identify and implement research-proven, trauma-informed strategies to support your child in regulating their emotions.

Parenting Self-Care

Parenting children who display behaviours of concern can lead to burnout. It's essential to prioritise your self-care.

You can't be the parent you want to be and engage fully with your child unless you possess the inner capacity to manage your emotions.

Research has proven that parents who are hard on themselves have confidence in their parenting skills, enjoy it less, and find it more difficult. They're also more likely to be critical and impatient with their children.

On the other hand, the studies highlighted that when parents take care of themselves, they feel more confident in their parenting, and they have more positive interactions with their kids.

There is a connection between parents who look after themselves and a decrease in behaviours of concern.

I'll be there to support and empower you in making self-care a priority, offering various strategies, practices, and resources to prevent burnout
